Stunning!

I have owned the Mitsubishi LaserVue since May 24, 2009. I could not be more satisfied with this TV. Blu-Rays look flawless with natural fluid motion, even with fast paced action scenes. The brightness of the image far surpasses the LCD and LED-LCD competition. Dark scene detail is the best that I have seen. My previous set was an early Samsung DLP. Reviewers have commented on the narrow viewing angle of DLP-type televisions. The viewing angle on the LaserVue is far broader than any DLP television, especially laterally. Even vertically, the viewing angle is better than my old Samsung DLP. My LaserVue sits on a BDI Deploy Max 9640-1, Extra wide Open TV Stand - Gloss Black stand, about 19 inches high. Wii games are playable twelve feet away without problems in viewing. The placement in my family room is on the long wall ( 24 feet ) and an excellent image is viewable from all seating positions. What really separates this TV from the competition, however, is the color rendition. Of the three color settings, "Natural", "Bright", and "Brilliant", I keep the TV mostly on "Natural", and even at this setting, the color is astounding. The "Bright" setting is used only when there is extreme ambient light, such as when there is direct sunlight streaming through the blinds behind the TV. The "Brilliant" setting seems to extrapolate the color into a range broader than originally intended or recorded. The Blu-Ray of the movie WALL-E looks incredible on this setting.

I must make some comments about a very positive experience with Mitsubishi as a company and the customer service that I have received. My first LaserVue did have a defect. The picture would occasionally shift in tone, as if the color temperature had been changed from cool to warm. I contacted my dealer, who in turn contacted Mitsubishi. I received telephone call from both a Mitsubishi customer service representative as well as an engineer from company headquarters in California. My set was replaced within a week and I received follow-up calls ensure that all was ok.

Many people are put off by the price of this television. I purchased the LaserVue and the stand at a very high-end Home theater store in Houston, where far costlier televisions were on display. One evening, near closing time, I was the only customer in the store. Most of the high-end televisions have promotional Blu-Ray DVDs playing to demonstrate the strengths of their products. My salesman allowed me to play these DVDs on the Laservue. It was really no contest. After this exercise, the LaserVue really seemed like a bargain, especially when considering that there should be no degradation of the image in the life of this television.
Blown away by this picture!

My brother just bought this and I'm very impressed with the pic quality. I want to start by saying I own a Sony XBR4 and an XBR6, and I have the baseline settings for XBR4 at AVS, so I know pic quality.

This is an amazing TV, super vivid colors, deep blacks and smooth motion. The only con is that is not a flat panel and cannot be wall mounted. If wall mounting is not a big deal, and you can afford the high price, then this is by far the best big-screen out there(over 55"), beating the Pio Elite Pro 111FD 60" model for color accuracy.

If size is not a big deal, the Pio Elite 50" pro111FD is probably better because its gettable for under 2k. The Sony XBR4,6 are the best LCD's at any size.

Mitsubishi hits a home run.....now please lower the price, so most can afford.

Ignore the "haters" reviews if you want the true skinny on this incredible, must-see-it-to-believe-it television. After copious research, my husband and I were 99% sure this was the TV we wanted...but there was one problem. There wasn't a store in our entire state that had one on the floor for us to see in person. With a purchase this expensive, that poses a giant obstacle. Do we buy it sight-unseen? Yikes! (We live in Michigan, and when I called Mitsubishi's general service line, I was told there was a store that had one on the floor...in Tennessee.)

Ultimately, we did buy it sight-unseen...directly from Amazon. (I would be cautious about buying it from any of the shadier internet appliance dealers, though - even among Amazon's own 'marketplace' sellers.) The set arrived very quickly, but we did have a problem: thin vertical lines running across 90% of the screen. I called the special number for Laservue owners and spoke directly with a real, live human being in California right away. They immediately arranged to have my set replaced with a brand-new set and have the faulty set shipped back to CA so they could examine it in person. For the incredibly low price for which we purchased this TV from Amazon (under $4K), I didn't mind a bit. Even in the few days it took for the new set to arrive, my husband and I watched the defective set with something approaching awe. The sharpness, the black levels, the otherworldly quality of the color when set on 'Brilliant' mode...it's indescribable. I'm so incredibly glad we didn't settle for a plasma with their distractingly reflective screens or an LED-LCD. The Mitsubishi Laservue leaves them all in the dust.

The new set arrived and "glorious" is a decent word to describe the picture quality. And if you're watching something in HD? It's like you can reach right through the screen and touch what you're seeing. I had to laugh when I found my husband utterly absorbed in a cooking show (something he NEVER watches), and when I called his name, all he could manage was to whisper "It all looks so delicious!", never once taking his eyes off the screen. I know what he means, though - you feel like you can actually smell and taste the food that is seen on this set.

The set itself is really slim and the case is beautifully sleek. I understand you can hang the Laservue on the wall, but since I've never been one to want to hang my TV on the wall itself, that didn't matter one way or another.

I can understand how some people are frustrated, having thought that this technology would be more widely available from other manufacturers by now and therefore more cost-competitive. I can even understand how some people hear the words "rear projection" and scoff at the notion of a television that is a rear projection selling for over $5,000.00. But I can tell you from firsthand experience that this television is worth every dime of its current price, and the angry reviews are written by people who don't own one and probably have never even seen one. Take them with more than a grain of salt.

Could we have afforded this television at its current market price? Sadly, no. I do hope that Mitsubishi will expand production so that brick-and-mortar stores that want to sell them can have them on hand, and that they consider expanding the Laservue line to screen sizes both larger and smaller. If they did so, I can't help but think they would have a runaway success on their hands, especially if they could come down in price even a bit. I also hope that other maufacturers jump into this technology with both feet and give Mitsubishi a run for their money.

But make no mistake - this television is so good, it makes every known superlative adjective seem banal. Mitsubishi rightly provides a level of customer service for this incredibly expensive TV that one would expect, and after having dealt with them, I can vouch for their commitment to complete satisfaction for the customers who are willing to take the plunge and buy a Laservue. But at that price, they'd darn well BETTER, right?

Still, if you want the kind of television that makes people's jaws drop open when they come over and makes everyone in your family grin like a mindless fool every time they watch it, consider the Mitsubishi Laservue. You *won't* regret it.
laservue is the best TV in the world!!!

I find it kind of funny that anyone who owns the laservue is very quick to rate it with 5 solid stars, yet people who don't own one can't afford it, or simply think it is overpriced, are really quick to give it 1 star. These are the people who really wish they could have one.
If you want the best 65" television in the world, by all means get a laservue. The colors, black levels, picture quality, and efficiency are just amazing, which is what you really want in a TV at the end of the day.

If within that first year your LaserVue unit requires servicing longer than 2 weeks from the first service visit then you may request that a new LaserVue HDTV be sent to you free of charge.

And that's just some of the benefits beside the awesome picture.

Sleeper Offering Relative to Most Popular LCDS

Review Date: July 29, 2007
Reviewer: J. DeStefano,
I was tending towards getting a smaller Samsung LCD to complement the 46" model I now have when I came across this Panasonic unit. What a surprise to find not only did it have an even brighter, crisper picture, but it also had a decent set of speakers and some unique features lacking in the Samsung and Sony models. These features include an automatic shutoff option if the remote hasn't been used for 90 minutes - a handy feature if you fall asleep while watching or have kids who leave the tv on. In addition, if signal is lost or a component feeding the unit is shut off, this tv automatically turns itself off after a period of time. Also it has a black adjustment setting which provides the pitch black typical of Sharp models, or optionally a lighter black which better shows detail in darker areas like Sony and Samsung offer, if that is what you prefer. The unique lighting source gets rid of the buzz other reviewers have complained about in some smaller Samsung sets. Getting back to the speakers - having a decent pair is critical for smaller sets where you likely wont be using a stand alone set of speakers. The Samsung speakers tend to be marginal in their smaller sets. Perhaps the only drawback I saw to this unit was the design. Clearly not as striking as the Samsung or even Sony. However, the construction is solid and it has a decent traditional look. And for a price lower than Samsung or Sony, it is a steal. Seems as though Panasonic - well know for its quality plasma sets - is finally getting serious about becoming a major player in the LCD arena. I love my 46" LCD Samsung, but this is clearly the best choice and value for a smaller LCD.

I love this TV! I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I'm so happy I went with this model and brand. First of all, I really like the Panasonic company. They actually have a customer service department! (With real people! In this country!) Other than that, the picture is great. It's really just as good as, or almost as good as, a Sony or Samsung, and certainly better than any other brand. And the price is significantly less than other name-brands. They say that 720p looks as good as 1080p at this size. No channels broadcast at higher than 720p or 1080i anyway, both of which this TV supports. My recommendation is to not waste your money on 1080p unless you get a bigger TV than this, and plan to hook up a HD DVD or Blu-ray player otherwise you will never see the difference. Except in your wallet.

I was close to buying a Sharp, actually, until I read all the reviews that say that standard definition channels look TERRIBLE on the Sharp. Then I went into a store to compare and you can really see the difference when SD commercials came on. The vast majority of my channels are SD, so that was important. I don't have a HD DVD or Blu-ray, but the picture from my progressive-scan DVD player is incredible. One last thing: the sound is really good for a TV. I usually hook it up to my stereo, but it's surprisingly good on its own.

So if you are waffling between a few different TVs and this is one of them, I don't think you'd be disappointed AT ALL if you settled on this one. Buy it!
Excellent TV

I bought this TV for two reasons: One was that I had decided Panasonic had the best picture in the stores where I had seen it and the other was that I have only an outside antenna and a reviewer said his worked great on a simple antenna. He was right and I am extremely pleased with this TV. Almost looks like 3-D on my best stations.
Terrific performance and value

Review Date: December 28, 2007
Reviewer: A. Amy, USA
After comparing this television side-by-side with many others, including a far more expensive Sharp Aquos, I could detect virtually no reason not to buy it. Upconverted DVDs look EXCEPTIONAL and the sound is surprisingly dynamic; it almost sounds like a far bigger mini stereo system! Of course, it's still no match for a high quality amplifier and speakers, but it's far better than any other TV I've owned. (I cannot comment on how its sound quality compared in the store with that of other sets, as I only looked at the picture.)

The menu is easy to use and includes all the features you could expect, including fully adjustable backlight in addition to surround, noise filter, color temperature, parental lock, auto off, timers, etc, with the one notable exception of a memory function that allows the user to store 2 different picture settings -- one for HD and near-HD, and another for standard definition. With the former, sharpness can be increased so much it starts to make standard satellite images look fuzzy. Therefore, the lack of such a memory can potentially be an inconvenience. In an attempt to negate the problem, I made sure the DVD player I bought had its own picture controls. I believe that after lowering the sharpness on the TV to a modest level and increasing sharpness on the DVD player, I should be able to achieve excellent results for both sources without having to constantly make adjustments, assuming that when I upgrade to HD satellite, the receiver will be able to store 2 settings.
The back is nicely laid out (unlike my sister's Olevia) and offers 2 HDMI inputs, 2 s-video, 1 component, a "front" input concealed in a recessed area on the right side, and, for those who might use it, an optical audio out.

The remote, while large, fits nicely in one's hand and is nicely designed.

In short, if you can compensate for the lack of dual picture setting memory, this TV is for you!

UPDATE: Correction! This TV DOES have a memory feature for picture controls; I simply missed it. In the PICTURE section of the menu there are several "quick" picture settings (vivid, cinema, etc.) and what I did not realize before is that all the picture controls can be adjusted separately for EACH of these "modes". Just make sure you set each one while tuned to the input with which you want to use those particular settings and the TV will store them. For example, I'm using the VIVID mode for HD signals and CINEMA for standard signals.

Some people have complained that this TV does not display standard content well. They apparently haven't spent a few minutes fine tuning the set. Yes, if you adjust VIVID for HD signals by raising brightness, sharpness, and color to levels you never dared use before and then try to watch regular cable or satellite without changing the picture, the quality will be lacking. But if you select another mode like CINEMA or STANDARD and in it reduce sharpness, brightness, and color down to a moderate level, you will quickly see that there is no problem. I tried both standard satellite and even a VHS tape, and believe me, it's fine!

Finally, it should be noted that this set can also display 1080i. Perhaps all 720p sets do, but if you are new to HD (like me) then you may not be aware of it.

Enjoy! It's a great product.

Excellent TV for the money, but with some shortcomings.

Review Date: January 22, 2008
Reviewer: What's in a name?, Washington, D.C.
So, you are thinking about buying a new TV, but what to choose? If you are wanting a flat panel TV, you can get either a plasma or an LCD. Plasma can be cheaper, and can give a better picture (at the same price point), but plasma weighs more, uses more power, generates more heat, and can burn images into the screen and ruin the TV (which matters if you view things without distorting and/or cropping the image to fit your screen; if you are spending all this money on a HDTV, do you really want distorted or cropped images?). So, I decided for an LCD.

The Pros of this TV:

This is an excellent TV for the money. It is the newer version of the 42HL67, which was a "Best Buy" in Consumer Reports, at the price of $1150. It has a better viewing angle than most LCDs, and it is capable of producing a superb picture, once you adjust the picture (unfortunately, the presets leave much to be desired for this, so I recommend getting a setup disc to properly adjust the various settings). Most of the picture settings are bad out of the box, though the tint adjustment is perfect right out of the box (at least mine was). You will need to adjust the settings separately for each input. Although that makes it more trouble to set-up, this is actually a good thing, because you may need different adjustments for different sources, and this way, once you properly set it up, you need not readjust when switching sources to compensate for differences in your sources.

The fact that it is only 720p (actually 768p, but let us not quibble) instead of 1080p is only going to be a problem if you sit very close to the screen. Otherwise, it gives all the resolution one can see (if fed a good HD source). And, of course, it gives all the resolution of the source for all non-HD sources (e.g., DVDs, etc.), and 720p HD sources. It is only less than what is possible with 1080i and 1080p sources (though it will accept such signals and convert them to its resolution).

The over-the-air tuner works fairly well, better than other HDTVs that I have tried. It even has a nice signal strength meter to help one adjust one's antenna. If, like most Americans, you live near a local HD broadcast, you can watch true HD without spending more money than what it costs to get this TV and an inexpensive antenna (I have been using my old antenna that was not designed for HD, and it works fine--and the TV is in my basement!!!--you, of course, should not expect to be so lucky if you put your TV in your basement, but you might be).

All sources look pretty good on this TV, though obviously you will see shortcomings of sources that are less than HD. Analog TV is much worse than 480i digital, which is worse than HD, but, still, it is better with these inferior signals than other HDTVs that I have tried. You will see differences between well made DVDs and poorly made ones. You will be disappointed if you have unrealistic expectations about what it is possible to do with less than ideal sources, but, otherwise, you should be satisfied with the picture you can get with this TV.

The Cons:

The owner's manual is poorly written. Really poorly written. Many of the controls have no real explanation for what they do! This is one of the worst manuals I have ever seen for electronic equipment, and there are a lot of poorly written manuals out there.

The so-called "universal" remote that comes with the TV does not work on my equipment, even though they are in the list of brands it is supposed to control. It should control my other equipment, but it does not. And since the remote is not a "learning" remote, there is nothing to be done about it. If it does not control your other equipment after trying the settings in the manual, you are simply out of luck. So, don't count on the remote controlling anything other than the TV itself, though you might be lucky and it might control your DVD player or some other device.

It could use another aspect ratio control to properly view non-anamorphic widescreen DVDs without distortion or cropping (it has one choice that can almost do this ["TheatreWide 2"]; it is generally with minimal cropping which, contrary to what the manual seems to suggest, does not appear to distort the image [I used a test disc with test patterns to see what the various aspect ratios really do]). For undistorted and uncropped 4:3 sources (i.e., the old NTSC or "conventional" aspect ratio), one uses "Natural" (which is also the setting to watch widescreen broadcasts; being "Natural", it keeps the picture in the aspect ratio that it already is). For viewing anamorphic widescreen DVDs undistorted and uncropped, use "Full". Of course, if you like to fill the screen with a distorted and/or cropped image, there are selections for you as well.

This TV, unlike all other HDTVs that I have used, cannot properly handle PAL signals (it simply chops off the bottom of the picture when fed a PAL signal, and the TV says it is receiving a 480i signal instead of the 576i PAL signal). (For those of you who don't know what "PAL" is, this probably won't matter, but in case you are curious, PAL is one of the formats of video used in many other countries which is on some DVDs, video tapes, and other such sources made for foreign markets. If the DVD or video tape is made for the U.S. market, even if it is a foreign film, it will NOT be in PAL, so you need not worry about this when shopping at most stores in the U.S.) In my case, I am thinking about buying an upconverting DVD player to deal with this issue, so that I will not be throwing away lines of resolution by converting to NTSC and then sending the image to this TV. If the TV were not otherwise capable of an excellent picture at its price point, this would cause me to return it, but since I can get an upconverting DVD player to deal with this issue, I think it will be okay for me, and can work for some others who want PAL capability, though if one needs it in the TV itself, one will need to look elsewhere (though good luck finding this kind of picture quality at this price).

Overall, the TV is excellent for the money, and its shortcomings are minimal, considering the price and overall quality. I think most people will be happy with it, and given what else is available, I think it is the best at its price point. It is certainly the best I have seen at its price point.

Edited to add (17 September 2008):

The preset settings out of the box, "Sports", "Standard", and "Movie" are all way off the NTSC & ATSC standards for proper picture. If you doubt this, I recommend buying a setup/test disc and adjusting the controls according to it, and then comparing these settings (saved as "Preference") with the three presets mentioned above. With a particular picture, there is, for example, supposed to be a certain amount of color, and having more or less than the right amount is not in accordance with what it is supposed to be. Of course, a particular person may not notice a slight difference, or might even prefer the picture to be off instead of the correct amount, just as people may like to adjust the bass or treble in their audio to suit their tastes (rather than reflect exactly what is recorded). The same idea applies to all of the other picture parameters. Too bad Toshiba did not make their "Standard" preset actually conform to the standards of broadcast television. Ironically, "Movie" is closest to being correct, but it is far enough off that I strongly recommend getting a setup/test disc and adjusting the set properly. If, after watching it a while with it set properly, you decide that you prefer improper settings, you obviously can readjust things to suit your particular tastes, so you will only be out the cost of the disc and the time and trouble to set things up properly. But many people, I think, will find themselves happy with the correct settings, if only they were able to do the adjustments (which, again, require a setup disc). If you want an inexpensive disc, you can go with the Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-Up available at Amazon.com.

I might also add, the TV is excellent FOR THE MONEY. It is not the best TV ever made, but it is great at its price point, which was just a little more expensive than lousy off brand TVs, but giving performance more comparable with sets costing hundreds more. I am still very happy with my purchase, and now have an Oppo DV-983H DVD player which deals extremely well with my PAL issue mentioned above. The Oppo is also easy to make region free, and is widely regarded as being the best DVD player ever made.

I bought this TV from Amazon on 12/29/2007 at about 4 PM CST.
It included "White Glove Delivery" in the total price. I received the TV on 1/4/2008 (6 days after ordering it). I called the shipper on 3 different occaisons to monitor the progress. "White Glove Delivery" in my case involved bringing the TV into my living room and taking it out of the box. I saw clearly on the shipping documents that the shipper was not to plug it in, hook up the stand, etc. However, I did inspect it for physical damage prior to signing the paperwork. It was clear that the shipper had been very careful handling this TV.

The TV would not fit into my entertainment system (my miscalculation) so my son and I had to dismantle some cabinetry and set up a credenza like substitute for the TV to sit on. It powered up nicely and I connected basic cable, DVD recorder(component), DVD player(S-Video), PS2(component), and a GameCube/N64(same switchable composite connection). The TV found lots of channels that I could not receive on my Sony Wega- including 12 High Definition channels!

Let me summarize the performance based upon a 5 point rating scale:

Standard Definition 2.5
Some stations look OK and some stink. The fact that I have analog cable may have something to do with it. My basis is my Sony Wega that I rate as a 3.5 (It has one of the best SD pictures).

DVD 480i 4.0

DVD 480p 4.5

1080i and 720p HD 5.0

Since I get all the major networks in HD I am not watching as much SD as I used to. My PS2 looks very impressive with games that support progressive scan and widescreen. A very enjoyable experience.

Overall, this is a fine TV and I'm glad I went with the Toshiba. I almost bought a 42" Panasonic plasma. They had convinced me that the "burn in" issue was a non-issue. However, the glare on a plasma can be horrendous and it is not totally cured with anti-glare coatings. This Toshiba has zero glare. There is an 8 foot fully lit Christmas tree directly in front of the TV about 18 feet back. You can see a perfect reflection in the shiny bezel but nothing on the screen surface. Quite impressive. The viewing angle on this particular model is very good with no noticeable change in picture quality from all spots in my living room. I took Consumer Reports word on this and they were right.
Great TV

Toshiba REGZA 42HL67 42-inch 720p LCD HDTV

We have been thinking about buying a new television for months. We did our research and checked with Consumer Reports and decided to go with the Toshiba. Amazon had the best price. The picture is great. We have a home theater system and it was easy connecting the the various cables up. The picture is awesome. We are still working out the kinks of our preferences for picture. We had bought a progressive scan DVD player about 5 years ago and the DVD's look great. The gaming is awesome. I can play games now without having my glasses on. As usual, Amazon did a great job in processing and delivery. We ordered on March 15 and the tv was delivered on the 19th. You can't go wrong with this television.

This is an EXCELLENT television, especially when ordered from AMAZON Llc. They ship IMMEDIATELY and the Eagle delivery system is fantastic. I had cautioned my wife to make sure there were no signs of damage and told her to ask the delivery people if they could open it up to make sure there was no screen damage, etc. etc.

Well, when EAGLE arrived (ON TIME) they brought the TV in, opened everything up to make sure the order was COMPLETE (even accessories). And they took all the huge packing materials with them and cleaned up any debris that was around. FANTASTIC SERVICE !!!

Had TV for month or so now and picture is excellent (using COMCAST cable box). Connected my DVD/VCR combo via HDMI and you can't believe how much better that picture is than with standard video cables.

Again, if your order of ANYTHING comes from AMAZON Llc, expect it much quicker than they say - EXCELLENT SERVICE !!
toshiba thumbs up

Spectacular Entertainment

Reviewer: Desert Crawler,
One year of viewing the Sharp LC65XS1U has never failed to be spectacular. Viewing all the HD provided from DirecTV is magnificent. Paired with Blu-Ray disc player provides an incomparable experience that makes me smile every day I watch. The most ambitious action is blur free, and pressing pause during any action maintains all the detail with crisp clarity. Furthermore, the sleek and clean lines make it feel non-obtrusive in my great room, even when off. Yes this is a very pricey TV, but I have never regretted this purchase.

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description Mitsubishi's LT-40134 is a 40-inch 1080p flat panel HDTV that incorporates the latest technologies for more accurate color reproduction and a picture that is more life-like than before. This 40-inch HDTV would be ideal as part of a home theater system in a small-to-medium-sized room.

With Deep Color technology, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast. View larger.

The LT-40134 is just six inches thick and has a beautiful, minimalist look. View larger.

TV Guide is built in so you'll always know what's on. View TV guide menu.
Lots Of Pixels In a Small Thin Box
The LT-40134 is just six inches thick but packs in a lot of technology for outstanding performance. Quality speakers are hidden away to maintain a beautiful, minimalist look that takes up less space in your room. The display is 1080p, which means it has the full 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution with progressive scan that is the highest quality HDTV standard today. With large televisions, this is important, as having a dense array of over two million pixels prevents the eye from seeing pixelation, especially at close distances.

The television is able to display any video signal that is connected to it. When a 1080p signal is the input, it is passed through with no down conversion, and the 1080p signal is maintained from beginning to end, giving the best picture quality. When a lower resolution is detected, whether it is 720p HD or a DVD, the signal is automatically scaled to display at 1080p, with minimal side effects and a very detailed picture.

Vibrant Colors You've Never Seen Before
The LT-40134 incorporates a slew of new technologies that give this television the most realistic color reproduction available on the market today. The new x.v.Color standard is supported, which dramatically increases the color space available, with 80% more color than standard HDTV. The television also supports Deep Color, a new standard that incorporates 10-bit color depth versus the previous 8-bit color depth. With Deep Color, shaded images show less banding and greater contrast.

Mitsubishi's Full Spectrum Color is an exclusive system that uses a wide range of phosphors in the LCD's backlight for brighter and more vivid reds and yellows, and more shades of green, cyan, and blue. Along with Mitsubishi's Color 4D Noise Reduction, PerfectColor, and PerfectTint, you get a wider color palette and the ability to fine tune the set to your exact preferences. The end result is a picture that is brighter, smoother, and more realistic than ever, with colors that have never been seen on a television set before.

Connections Galore
You don't need to worry about running out of connections with the LT-40134. It has a total of three HDMI 1.3 inputs with Simplay HD certification, so you can connect your Blu-Ray player and HD DVD player, and still have an input left over. It also has three component video inputs (two rear, one side), a side USB connection so you can display up to five megapixel photographs on the television, and two rear A/V inputs with S-Video, as well as a Dolby Digital/PCM output and an analog stereo output.

Simple Controls
Mitsuibishi's NetCommand allows the included partially-illuminated remote to control an entire home theater system. NetCommand is an on-screen system with simple and intuitive icon-based controls. The LT-41034 also has TV Guide Daily built in, so you have a program guide available all the time.

The LT-40134 is backed by a limited 1-year parts and labor warranty.

What's in the Box
LT-40134 40-inch LCD HDTV, remote control, two AA batteries, owner's guide, quick reference guide, quick connect guide, product registration card, cable tie, and cable clamp.

awesome hdtv

Awesome tv! I was ready to purchase the Samsung 37". However, I was a bit put off by its shiny (i.e., distracting) high gloss frame. Then, I found that the Mitsubishi 40" was the same overall size as the Samsung 37" and the Mitsubishi's bezel is so small its almost invisible!

The Mits 40134 is definitely the way to go over the stripped down 40133. The 134 has dynamic contrast enhancement while the 133 does not. It also has "edge detail enhancement processing" which really does work. You can clearly see the difference even in the menu display while turning this feature on/off. Also, the 134's remote command feature provides 2, wired, InfraRed transmitters which allows the 134 to control other devices such as your cable box and DVD. I haven't yet used the 134's "TV Guide" capability so I can't comment on that.

If you do get this set, I recommend that you switch it from the default "Brilliant" picture setting to "Normal".

Small bevel and excellent color!

Although I had my mind on a SHARP, I purchased the Mitsuibishi as it was the largest screen nice that would fit into an Ethan Allen Armoire we have. The Mitsuibishi has a very thin bevel around the frame which means you can pack in more screen size into a limited space. The 40 inch Mitsuibishi cleared by a half inch - just perfect. This was the only 40 inch TV I could get for this furniture. Otherwise, I would of had to have gone with a 37 inch model.

At first I was nervous about the brand as all the advertising and press seems to go to the big three - LG, SAMSUNG, and SHARP. Consumer Reports has never even tested a Mitsuibishi LCD TV. Well, the color is just fabulous. Mitsuibishi claims 25% more color than standard HD-LCD TV's. The set-up was easy and intuitive. You can even program the TV when you want it to come one each day. We also enjoy the side panel which allows you to connect just about anything including a USB drive. Mitsuibishi included some built in slideshow software so that you can easily watch your photos automatically when you connect the thumb drive to the USB port. Why wife really was glad we ended up picking this one. It way cost slightly more than the big 3 brands, but were glad we bought it.
Loving This TV So Far

Review Date: September 20, 2007
Reviewer: brakmaster, Houston, TX United States
I bought this TV recently and I haven't been able to stop talking about it. I looked at several TVs around this size and kept coming back to this particular model. The blacks are very deep and the contrast is crystal clear. HD sports, music, and science shows are absolutely engrossing now.

This model offers a wide variety of inputs (HDMI and component) and the system menu is very user friendly. Mitsubishi TVs feature a 'learning' remote control that seems a little complicated at first (and you don't have to use it at all). However, it's pretty cool and can turn on your receiver/cable box when you turn on the tv, pause your dvr when switching to a video game, etc. It took me a while to configure, but it's quite worth it.

You can buy a TV this size for less, but go ahead and scratch up the money for one of these. I'm very, very glad that I did.
Great monitor

Just picked up this monitor yesterday. Initial observations are that this is a really nice monitor. Clear, good color, even looks good with standard definition tv signals, can process full 1080p HD signals. My last Mitsubishi TV lasted 16 years without a hiccup (until it finally died), I'm hoping for a similar outcome with this TV. Compared it to Sony, Sharp, Philips, Visio (yuck), JVC, etc. Not the largest TV on the market, but one must consider how close you'll be sitting to the screen.
Great picture

Review Date: March 5, 2008

Update May, 2010: I had to return this TV for warranty service (just within the 1 year warranty) because of a row of dead pixels. They didn't give me any hassle about returning it though it took about 2 and a half months to get it back. Now, another year later, the screen has dimmed, with only a small section on the right-hand side still at the original brightness. Also, there are power problems; the TV just turns itself off occasionally and you sometimes have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to come back on. Conclusion: don't buy a Mitsubishi TV.

I bought this TV two months ago, and I'm very happy with it. The picture is excellent with HD programming (1080i and 720p,) and even with 480p inputs. As for analog signals, well, it's as good as I've seen, but you just have to accept that plain old TV will never look that good on a HDTV. I've also hooked the TV up to a Dell computer with a DVI to HDMI cable, and get a brilliant 1080p picture. The computer runs Vista Media Center using digital cable tuners with cable cards, and the picture is superb from this setup, much better than the component input picture from my Comcast cable box.

The TV automatically recognizes most things you plug in, and sets up the input for you. I haven't used the universal remote features, as I have a Harmony remote, so I can't comment on those, but the remote seems reasonably easy to use. The menus are pretty easy to navigate, but if you linger too long in changing a setting the menu goes away; this can be a bit frustrating.

The only negative I've seen so far is that I can see variations in the screen surface, like bands, but these only show up when there is sunlight reflecting off the screen. They're invisible at night, or when the sunlight isn't very bright. I also wish the TV had picture-in-picture (PIP,) but that's not a knock on what's in the TV as it is.

The TV appealed to me as it needed to fit in an armoire that has a 37 inch platform. It just barely fits, but I got the maximum screen size I could fit in the armoire, so I'm happy. I'd have had to settle for a 37 inch screen otherwise. I'd definitely recommend the TV to anyone looking for a 40 inch LCD screen.
